Well, we’ve finally moved into the condo on Wednesday of last week. We felt very lucky because the movers that we used were awesome, the furniture deliveries were on time and most of the condo is done. You notice that I said “most” not “all”. There are still a few minor things that aren’t finished. Generally, none of them affect us too much. There is so much construction going on in Calgary that there are shortages on many things that I never would have even worried about like window screens, hardwood floor finishing pieces, window cranks, etc. Who would have thunk it?
We were one of the first few people to move in but it seems that more people are moving in all the time. We haven’t met any of our neighbors but hopefully we will soon. We all have patios but being in the middle of a construction zone doesn’t really make you want to hang out on them.
The great thing about our new neighborhood is that there are tons of things within walking distance. Some of my favorites are Starbucks, my hair salon, Heartland CafĂ© (great soups and sandwiches), the local ice cream parlor and Baskerville Books (a used bookstore). It’s great to have so many things so close!
I tried walking to work this morning b/c our condo isn’t that far from my work. I thought it was a lot closer, though. I gave myself 30 minutes to make the walk but it took more like 45 minutes. The other issue was that it is unseasonably warm today and the walk is all up hill. I was a bit winded and sweaty by the time I finally made it to work. :) I’ll probably do it again but I’ll give myself more time next time.
If any of you are in the neighborhood, drop by or if you’re far away, come visit!
