We are always looking for new things to do on the weekends. It is easy to get into a rut if you aren't careful. I have a few tricks up my sleeve for finding out what is going on for the weekend. One of my favorite is Babyvibe. They have newsletters they send out for what's happening in the Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver regions every week. Last week I noticed that there was a model train show in town....Supertrain 2010! Now none of us are really that "into" model trains but I thought it would be fun to check it out. Everyone had a blast and Evan played in the Thomas the Train play area forever....He did NOT want to leave!
Here are some of the pictures Dewey took while we were there.
This train diorama is made entirely of lego. Just about all the pictures I'm going to post fall squarely under the heading of "Someone had entirely too much time on their hands!"
More of the Lego diorama. In this part you can see the Calgary Tower and the house from the movie "Up"...complete with balloons.
There were people showing how the dioramas were made.
This diorama had a miniature oil refinery....
and a working rail car loading machine....I know there is a word for it but I don't know what it is....
...alas, even in fake diorama world people get hurt sometimes....thankfully there are ambulances there too....
....and last but not least....a complete oil drilling rig.
Evan had a blast at the Thomas the Train play area...notice that his mouth is totally in 'train sound" mode.
Before we left we even got to ride a train from the train park in Airdrie, AB.
Evan got to add another figure 8 set to his Thomas collection. This one even came with a water tower! The water level goes up and down when you move the spout. You would think this windfall would have made him more receptive to letting me take a picture of him smiling but....no.
Have you done anything out of the ordinary lately? How do you find new places to go with the family? I'd love to hear about it!
