Happy 3 month Birthday Evan!!!

I can't believe that Evan is 3 months old!!!! It seems like on one hand he was born just yesterday but on the other hand it seems like he's always been a part of our life. I am so happy that we decided to have a baby. I was CONVINCED that I was having a girl. I would not discuss the possibility of having a boy. Well, as you know....I was wrong. Dewey loves poking fun at me about it b/c he says "And you wanted a girl". The reason he can do this is b/c Evan has me wrapped tightly around his chubby little finger. I would not change how things worked out for the world. Evan has changed my life dramatically but I would not change it for anything.

Today we went to the Farmer's Market with Erin. I had grand plans of taking pictures to post but it just didn't happen. You could tell that Autumn has hit b/c of all the pumpkins at the market. The trees here in Calgary have turned colours as well. I love Autumn....other than the fact that I know that winter isn't too far behind. The positive, though, is that it's sweater weather now and I look way better in sweaters than I do in summer clothes.

Stop the Insanity!

Okay, so you know how there are WAY more clothing options for girls over boys? So, why oh why do I come home with new clothes for Evan EVERY time I go to the mall????? Diana and I went to the mall today for lunch after our Salsa Babies class. Of course I "had" to get Evan some long sleeve onesies b/c we only have 2 or 3 and winter is coming quickly. You see I'm a bit lazy and I refuse to do laundry every day or even every few days. I really like to only do laundry once per week so Evan has more clothes than I do (well, almost anyway). It doesn't help that my little chunky monkey has outgrown all of his 0-3 month clothes and most of the 3 month clothes. So now he's wearing slightly too big 6-9 month clothes b/c I refuse to buy anything smaller. So it's not really insanity....right?

I do realize that I should just go to one of the many consignment shops and buy him clothes but I'm never at those shops. If they were only at the mall....with the food court and the nursing room. Oh well, maybe I will turn over a new leaf soon & start going that route.

Boy Do I Miss Austin

After 6 days in Dallas, we headed down to Austin for a few days. It was never a question that we would visit b/c Dallas was just too close to not! I told everyone that I wanted to eat Mexican food & BBQ the entire time (and I pretty much did). After we arrived on Friday night we went out to eat with Deanna. Sven and Angelle were going to join us later that night for the weekend. We all stayed at Deanna's house (Thanks Deanna!). Dewey organized a band reunion for Sunday afternoon. He hasn't really found many people to play music with in Calgary so whenever we go to Austin he loves to get together with people to play. Since Sven plays guitar (and was staying at Deanna's as well) he got to play even more than usual.

On Saturday we went to visit Ian and meet his little girl Mirabelle. Unfortunately, Mirabelle was asleep & didn't wake up during our visit. I got to peek in on her though & she was very cute. It's amazing how many of my friends have kids now! Saturday night we all met up with Andre & Nancy and went to eat Thai food at Madam Mam's on campus. This is one of the places that I used to eat at at least twice a week so I was pumped! Afterwards we headed back to Deanna's to listen to Andre, Sven & Dewey play and sing.

Sunday was the day of the big band reunion. Dewey & Sven headed down to the rehearsal hall. Deanna, Angelle and I went to check out the new Domain shopping centre. The Domain is the new high end shopping place in Austin complete with a Neiman Marcus & a Macy's. We looked around at the amazingly high priced stuff but didn't buy anything. We then hung out at the Steeping Room for tea & snacks. It was a very beautiful day & there was a jazz band playing. It was the perfect place to hang out. After the guys got done jamming, we all met at Rudy's for BBQ. It was great to see Patrick & Holly again and to meet their kids.




Monday was spent shopping & hanging out. We met Debi for dinner at Chuy's. Tuesday, Dewey headed to Houston for a work meeting and I hung out at Deanna's. After he got back, we headed to the Oasis with Deanna for dinner & to see the sunset. It was a great way to end our visit. The next morning we were headed back to Calgary.






It was a great visit. I really miss Austin. It DEFINITELY didn't help that when we got back to Calgary I found out that it had SNOWED that morning. Yeesh!

Fun In Dallas

Dewey, Evan and I were in Dallas for 6 days for a conference. We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland hotel which is like a biosphere. Evan and I were lucky enough to escape "the bubble" a couple of times but Dewey only got to leave once. Evan and I went to a Historical Village in Dallas. It was okay but a bit boring. It was part of the program put together for guests of the conference attendees. The next day we went to the outlet mall.....that was much more fun!!! I went a bit crazy and bought lots of stuff for Evan (of course). It's amazing how much cheaper things are in the US versus Canada! I'm having to buy clothes that are 6 months and larger b/c Evan is growing so fast.

I didn't attend the conference this year but I did get to go to the trade show at night. It was great to go & take Evan. Dewey laughed b/c it would take us forever to go 4 feet b/c everyone was coming up to us to meet Evan. I am so glad we went so that we could introduce Evan to all our friends. We laughed that Evan will have to be a geek b/c with parents like me & Dewey he can't help it!

Evan is Almost 3 Months!

Evan will be 3 months old on the 28th. Where has 3 months gone???????? He's growing up so fast! He had his 3 month doctor's appointment on Thursday. He weighs 13 lbs 13 oz & is 24 1/2 inches long. See more pictures of him here.

It's amazing how much has changed in my life in 3 short months. I went from super career oriented girl to stay at home mommy (though I will DEFINITELY be going back to work at the end of my year leave) and I can't imagine my life without Evan. I am still trying to get used to how much he needs from me, though. It seems he's always needing something....food, diaper change....something. Most of the times I handle it all in stride but it was very hard while we were away on holidays. Dewey was away at his conference all day then he would come back to the hotel room for a while. We would then go walk around the trade show (where I would carry Evan) and then afterward I would go back to the room & Dewey would go out with coworkers/customers. After a week, I wanted someone (anyone) to take Evan for a while. My friend Molly was awesome when she came up to me one night & offered to hold Evan so I could eat. I was so thankful!!!!

I love Evan so much but it is hard to be the sole caregiver all the time. I'm sure that women who lived in earlier generations are rolling their eyes b/c in past years men acted like this and everyone expected it. Unfortunately, these days women believe that they have a 50/50 responsibility split with their husbands. When children appear that split changes. It has to b/c you are at home & you are feeding the baby. While I know that...it is really hard to take at times! It is also hard b/c Dewey gets to get away more than I do whether for a night or a weekend (did I mention that he is away for a weekend-long golf tourney????). I do have a weekend spa get away planned, though!!!! Yea!!!

We're Baaaackk!

Sorry I left and went on holidays without a word but I'm still a bit weirded out about announcing that we are out of town to the world wide web. Dewey had a week long conference in Dallas at the Gaylord Texan hotel. If you've never experienced one of the Gaylord hotels they are something to see. It's a bit like staying in the biosphere. After the conference was over we drove down to Austin for a few days. I will post more about what we did & who we saw soon. I haven't downloaded any of the pictures yet (or unpacked....gotta get to that). This was Evan's first big trip & he was amazing. He cried very little on any of the flights & he made all the women we met fall in love with him (except maybe Debi but she's a lost cause). What more could I ask for! He and I will be spending more quality time together this weekend while Dewey is away at a golf tournament.

So Big!

We went to get Evan's two month vaccinations today. Poor baby! He WAS NOT impressed! He got two shots in one thigh & one shot in the other. Oh well, he seems okay now though a little sleepier & fussier than normal.

One of the only reason I was looking forward to this appointment was b/c they would weigh & measure him. He now weighs in at 13 lb 2 oz & he is 23.75 inches long. He's 75th precentile for both. He's my chubby bubby! :)

Here's some information on a cool non-profit that I heard about on Oprah. I've always tried to give back but often I felt that maybe the money I gave might not be going to actually HELP people. This organization gives micro-loans directly to entrapreneurs in the developing world. It's a "hand up" not a "hand out". I signed up & so should you. :)

Here's the information off of their website:

Kiva.org allows individuals to make $25 loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world (microfinance). By doing so, individuals like you provide affordable working capital for the poor (money to buy a sewing machine, livestock, etc.), empowering them to earn their way out of poverty.

It's a new, direct and sustainable way to fight global poverty, and the way I see it, I get a higher return on $25 helping someone build a future than the interest my checking account pays.

Labour Day Weekend 2007

Our Labour Day weekend was pretty uneventful. It seems that is the norm these days as we don't go anywhere too exotic with Evan. With him it's pretty much either the mall or the grocery store. This weekend we headed for Ikea on Friday night to pick up some much needed furniture for our front room. This room is supposed to be a dining room (I think) but we're not really dining room people. There's a spot for a table in the big kitchen/living room combo room so why would we need a seperate dining room? Dewey & I decided to make it into a home office/sitting room. This decision excited me b/c I am such a packrat when it comes to papers. I can't throw anything away. This leads to piles of crap around the house (mainly in the kitchen). The new office promised a file drawer so that I could at least relocate the crap. Ikea was crazy as usual but since it was a Friday night & most people have something better to do...it wasn't too bad. We schlepped it all home & Dewey got to work. He LOVES putting together stuff from Ikea.....I told him that they probably have a medication for that. :) Of course they were missing some parts (glass doors for the top part of the cabinet & we bought some stuff that we don't need so we have to go back. Here's what it looked like when we were done. Pretty good if I may say so myself even w/o the parts we're missing.


Evan is 2 months old now. My how time has flown by! He is growing like a weed. We go to get his vaccinations on Thursday. They will weigh & measure him then so I will update everyone on the amazing growing baby. He has grown really long & most of his sleepers are now too short. We've had to move him into the 6 month sleepers b/c the others are too short. It's keeping me on my toes trying to keep him in clothes that fit. Here are some pictures of him that I took recently. I keep trying to capture a smile on camera but I haven't been successful yet. You know you'll see it on here when I do!
