Happy Birthday Evan!

>> Monday, June 28, 2010

My little man is 3 today.  I can't believe he is getting so big! It seems like just yesterday that I woke up at 5am because my water broke.  He decided he wasn't quite ready to come out because he didn't make his appearance until 11pm that night.

These days he is a wonderful mix of loving little boy, jokey jokester & little terror.  Every day he is learning something new and making me shake my head at his newest antics.  In the past three years, I've also grown up a lot and learned this wonderful job of being a mommy.  I've started to relax a bit and not worry as much (I know that Dewey will shake his head at this because he still says I worry entirely too much).  I still want to wrap him in bubble wrap sometimes so that I can make sure he is safe but I know that he needs to experience the world to learn.  It just hurts my heart to think that he might get an "ouchy" in the process.  All in all....we couldn't even imagine life without him.  He is a little guy who makes a big difference in our lives.

Okay....enough sappy mama talk!  On with the party pics!

We had lots of family & friends over yesterday to celebrate with us.  Much fun & food was had by all....well everyone except Evan.  All he ate was watermelon, chips & a huge cupcake.  Oh well....it was his birthday!

He licked all the icing off & then reached for another cupcake.  Thankfully I caught him before he actually got another one.

Shawna & Kali enjoying their cupcakes.

Shawn & Kohen....yum!

Heather & Colleen

Kali is such a cutie!

Presents!  Highlights included a LiteBrite (which was one of my most "wanted" toys that I never got as a child....hmmmm), a bug vacuum, Buzz Lightyear, Thomas the Train, sports equipment, Weeride push bike, and on & on.

Martin, Ian, Colleen & Heather....  Emma's hiding around there somewhere....

Evan attacking everyone with a very spitty party horn/blowy thing....what are those things called anyway????

Happy Birthday Dewey!

>> Monday, April 05, 2010

This post is being written a little late because I went out on a date with my husband, Dewey, tonight for his  birthday.

All the bold and big is because dates don't happen very often around here.  Since Evan has been born and especially since I've been back to work, we haven't gone out very often on our own.  When we do go out it is almost always with friend or more often with work.  Tonight we went out to Escoba for wine and appetizers and then we went to see Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges.  Dinner was wonderful and the movie was even better.

So Happy Birthday to my crazy husband also known as a wonderful dad, a rock star and a pilot.

Party!

>> Monday, July 06, 2009

We had our big blowout birthday party for Evan's 2nd birthday yesterday. We had 24 or 25 people (I keep losing count). The weather was a bit rainy so most everyone was in the living room. Everyone was good....there wasn't any fighting or crying...oh and the kids were good too! :) The adults had ribs and chicken while the kids had pizza (Elmo's favorite food). We had a chocolate Elmo cake for desert. Note to self...next time don't show Evan the cake toppers before the party b/c he WANTS them NOW! We bought a pinata but then decided to use it as decoration instead of as a pinata b/c I was really worried that Elmo coming apart & candy spilling out of his butt may have scared them for life. All the toddlers got goodie bags with Dorothy Crackers (goldfish), Cookie Monster Cookies (Famous Amos individual size cookies), Bert and Ernie's Bubbles (spillproof bubble thing) and a Big Bird blowout thingy (I have no idea what those are actually called....you know...the think with the paper curl on the front). We all had a great time and the white carpet (which I soooo did not pick) in the living room survived!

Hanging out in the backyard between rain showers. That's Evan's birthday playhouse on the left from me & Dewey.

The goodie bags and Elmo!
Mark and Doug on Daddy duty! Hold on.....that's not Mark's baby! That's Lauren! Mark is stepping in because Coz was on his way to/in Fort McMurray.

Getting ready to blow out the candle....it's a bit FAR away. Daddy had to help out a bit!

Evan loved the hats in theory but REFUSED to wear one!

Yum!

Opening presents....and a random picture of me to remind you that I do actually exist. Not that you would know it from our picture files!

Evan got a super cool recycling truck from Georgia and James. He has had so much fun "recycling" all his puzzle pieces, etc & then dumping them back out.

Daniel is always VERY smiley!

Georgia and Kate love the blowout thingies!

Sign I made (Angelle helped!)
You can see all the pictures here.

Happy Birthday, my little man. It seems like 2 years have flown by but it also seems like you've been in our lives forever. You are a wonderful sweet child who has recently started to act a bit like Napolean. I begin to wonder if we've hit the terrible twos and then you turn a corner and are happy again. You bring light into everyone's world. I can't wait to see many, many more of your birthdays to see what kind of little boy (and then man) you grow up to be.

I love you!

Happy Birthday, Kate!

It's that time of year again when Kate, Evan & Daniel all have birthdays. I can not explain how wonderful it was to have my two best Calgary friends pregnant & then on maternity leave at the same time as I was. Here in Canada, we get a whole year off for maternity leave (awesome, huh?) so Diana, Andrea and I got to hang out lots. We did the mall, coffee, Gymboree, the zoo, etc, etc, etc. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work after a year. :(

Anyhoo, back to the post at hand. This past weekend we celebrated Kate's 2nd birthday in grand style. I took about 2 million pictures but I'll only upload a few. Evan's birthday is next....I better start planning!

Kate's playhouse....hey wait, are adults allowed?

Evan LOVES Kate's slide!

Kate & Daniel love the slide too!

Here comes the Elmo cake!

Let everyone eat cake!

Happy Birthday, Will!

>> Monday, April 20, 2009

We celebrated Will's birthday this weekend at Nana's. The actual day is the 16th but this weekend was as close as we could get it. We had a very yummy meal of steaks, potatoes & corn followed up with cupcakes from Bliss & Co. Definitely my favorite new foodie find!

Will turned 11 this year. He has grown up so fast & is getting really tall. He'll be a teenager before we know it!

Evan was happy to have a reason to get to eat cake!

Happy Birthday, Dewey!

>> Sunday, April 05, 2009

Today was Dewey's birthday but we had his birthday party yesterday. Will, Nicole, Nana & Papa Don were all here to celebrate. We grilled steaks & had an AWESOME birthday cake from a new bakery in Calgary named Bliss & Co. Cupcakes. The birthday cake was chocolate cake with caramel buttercream filling & chocolate icing. It was SOOOOO good! Even Nana liked it & she doesn't like bought cake!!!!

Here's some pics from our celebration!

Evan REALLY likes cake! Too bad he looks like he got beat up after rubbing ketchup in his eye, sticking his finger up his nose, making it bleed & then eating cake!

One of the best cakes EVER!

Evan running around without his pants.

Self portrait with baby who's trying to kiss the camera. He is hilarious!

Nicole loves the cats more than any of the rest of us!

Happy Birthda, Nana!

>> Monday, February 23, 2009

Yesterday was Nana's birthday. We always try to do something special on her birthday. Since she treats us to her wonderful cooking all year, we usually take her out to dinner somewhere nice in Calgary. Unfortunately, going out to dinner is not as easy as it used to be. Evan goes to bed at 7:30pm every night. That coupled with the fact that the last two hours of the day are usually his fussiest means that going out to dinner is not what it's cracked up to be! Dewey suggested we go to dim sum on Sunday but we do that all the time so not really special. I looked around to see where in Calgary served brunch & came up with The Ranche. It is located in Fish Creek park in Calgary. It's an old ranch house that was built in 1896. The food was excellent & we all had a great time. There was even an ice sculpture out front!

Well, I better run....enough procrastinating.... gotta get to the gym!

Happy Birthday, Victoria!

>> Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Today is my sister's last day in Calgary & it's also her 18th birthday. To celebrate, I took the day off from work and we went shopping. First we went to "Under the Bridge Fashions" in Bridgeland. They have pretty cute clothing though a bit pricey. After that we headed to Value Village. It's a large thrift store chain in Calgary. Victoria found 3 or 4 more T-shirts for her T-shirt addiction. She loves random T-shirts with graphics printed on them. Some of her finds from this week were one from a student radio in Saskatchewan, one from a Canadian diving team & one for a team called the Titans. After that we headed for Chinook mall. We shopped there for a few hours and then we were shopped out.

Victoria decided she wanted to be adventurous for her birthday dinner so we decided to introduce her to Indian Food at Glory of India. Glory is one of our favorite Indian restaurants ever. Victoria really liked the food (which is good). We were glad that she liked it and that she was willing to try something new.

We're sad to see her head back to Alabama. She'll be starting college in a couple of weeks after getting home. I'm sure she'll be having fun then!
