Tackle It Tuesday - Expiration Dates

>> Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

We've been talking about Expiration Dates on everything from food to medicine over at Everything Mom. I thought I was pretty good about "obeying" expiration dates though I had a sneaking suspicion that there were some items in my pantry & condiment collection that were probably a bit *ahem* past their prime.

I decided to go through my fridge & the pantry to see what I would find. WOW! It's amazing we're still alive! We had salad dressing that expired in 2007 and muffin mix that (I swear) I have moved 3 times (and we've been in this house almost 3 years....so ewwwww!). Some things don't have expiry dates so I had to take one for the team and taste them. Yep...I tasted rancid almond slivers & other culinary delights (more like disasters)!

I forgot to take "before" pictures but "after" I had tons more room in the pantry and the fridge is MUCH less cluttered.

So go check out what mysterious, scary, expired things are hiding in your pantry & fridge. I think you might be surprised. My next target is the medicine cabinet....I saw some cough syrup in their that expired in 2007. YUCK!

Tackle It Tuesday - Christmas Decorations

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Well, I finally did it. I finally tackled the task that has been haunting me for weeks.....that's right...I took down the Christmas decorations. Yes I know that it is January 12th and that Christmas was almost 3 weeks ago but I just kept putting it off. That is until Sunday when, still in my pajamas, I turned to Dewey and said "Bring up the bins. I'm taking this crap down!"

You can see my little helper on the left edge of the picture. He "helped" alot.

Bins Bins Everywhere!

Now the tree is bare. It stood like this for a day b/c Dewey wanted to buy plastic to wrap it in to store it. He never made it to Rona so back in it's original box it went.

It felt so great to get the house back! I even remembered to put the stuff back that we had put away to make room for the Christmas decorations. Last year everything got put back half way with lots of things missing. Evan was very glad to see one of his favorite toys reappear. It is much loved after it's 2 month disappearance!

The Best Laid Plans

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Those of you who know me "for real" as opposed to "as a blogger" know that some times I am way to uptight for my own good. I like things to go smoothly with few surprises. Now don't get me wrong....I'm great with change as long as that change isn't now...tonight...right this minute. I do realize this about my self and occasionally I try to be better. Other times I just whine/complain/yell. :) Hey, at least I'm honest!

On Sunday I wrote my lovely meal plan for this week. Who knew that Dewey would have to work late into the night both last night and tonight. Since Evan won't eat most things anyway, Dewey is pretty key in the whole "dinner" thing. Without him it's just me eating by myself while cajoling Evan to eat "something....anything....please!"

The positive is that I have still eaten at home & I've finished up lots of leftovers. The worst thing that might happen is that I will have a couple of meals less than the meal plan showed and that's okay. It's not that big of a deal. I can say that now.... a few hours ago I was a bit less enthusiastic.

It's a daily battle but I'm trying to take it easier, worry less, complain less, say "no" to Evan less (and to Dewey and the kids too). It's definitely a process but it's one I think it's worthwhile to work on.

So, what are you working on these days?

So this doesn't *quite* fit into "Tackle It Tuesdays" but I thought it kind of did. Head over to 5 Minutes for Mom to see what everyone else is tackling this Tuesday.
